I can remember being in elementary school and getting my ears pierced only to freak out that the back of the earring had gone into my ear so I removed the earrings (with the back) and the hole closed up. I didn't get my ears re-pierced for another year or so. What was I thinking...that said it definitely made me hold off on pushing Emma to do it when she wasn't ready.
After we picked out shoes we headed into Claire's, picked out the earrings she wanted, filled out the waiver, and she was ready to go. There was a little girl there before her, about Emma's age, that told her mom she wanted to get her ears pierced but at the last second decided not to out of fear. I thought Emma would see that and change her mind but she was ready! Sitting in the chair we could tell she was getting apprehensive but she sat calmly and just went through the process. I am not really sure who was more anxious...me, Ben, Emma or Cash. We were so excited for her and nervous at the same time.
I did tell Ben I was nervous that the girl may do the first ear and after feeling that Emma may not want to do the second. She was such a trooper though. She whimpered a tiny bit at the first and shed a tear after the second but she was SO brave. The lolly pop and two "stuffies" helped ease the discomfort.
When she was all done she got to pick out one pair of earrings so that she had an extra pair when her ears heal and she can change them out. She was so happy and asked a few times over the next couple of days if other people can see her earrings. That night she asked me how she was going to sleep with the earrings in since she was afraid to sleep on her side as she normally does. Once getting in bed, with a little Tylenol, she was great! The next day she said her ears really didn't hurt!
She also loved that now she and I both wear earrings. Be still my heart! I was so emotional after she got her ears pierced. I guess its another sign of "growing up" for me....which is happening too fast.
