Bahamas - just us

Ben and I wanted to take a vacation together...just the two of us....and hadn't since the Cayman Islands a  few years ago.  So we decided on the Bahamas as its a destination we haven't been.  It was on my bucket list so I booked flights and hotel and off we go!

I chose Baha Mar - Hyatt as Chad and Rochelle had stayed there a year ago right after they opened and had a great time!  It has a casino, 14 or so restaurants, gorgeous beach and several pools.  The spa and gym are also beautiful...so it was a no brainer that this would be a fit for us!

We flew out Thurs the 16th and returned Monday the 20th.  It was just the right amount of time in the Bahamas.  Alexa kept the kids for us while we were gone which was SO nice.  She took them on several outings which they loved!

We left about noon on Thurs and headed to the airport.  I snapped a few pics of all the fun beginning before we left.

We flew Delta with a stop in Atlanta and arrived in the Bahamas about 8:30pm est.  The process at the airport in Nassau was seamless.  We had car service from the airport to the hotel which was about a 15 minute drive.  Our driver was super nice and shared a little about the Bahamian culture.  He of course advised us to try conch...along with every other local we encountered.  He also recommended we head to what the locals call The Fish Fry which is an area of "hole in the wall" restaurants serving "traditional" Bahamian food.

The casino...view from east lobby.

The hotel upgraded us to an ocean view room which was really breathtaking.  The room was nice, modern, clean and fairly spacious.  One thing very off putting is the smell of the water.  We thought initially it may just be our room but then when we walked by their water show, similar to the Bellagio in Vegas, we got a smell of the water again.  It was awful.  It smells like its coming from the sewer. That said taking showers was a little bit of a challenge.

Cool feature but with no door on the actual toilet area...not sure its our idea of a great design factor.

Since we got in late that evening we headed to their 24 hour restaurant, The Swimming Pig, named after the actual swimming pigs there in the Bahamas.  It was a fun little restaurant, great atmosphere, good food and good service.  In fact it was so good that we ended up there every night but one for drinks (well me), late night pizza and dessert.

Very cool "fire show" that runs every 15 min or so.

We walked around a little outside just to get a lay of the land as the hotel is very big.  It was dark but we got an idea of where the pools and beach were located.  The weather was so nice!

The next morning was just beautiful!  The water so blue and the weather warm but not hot!

In the AM the casino is very dead.  The tables aren't really even running.  You can of course sit and play slots but overall not a lot of gambling going on.  Obviously very different than Vegas.  The other piece to that is that this time of year is not their busy season so could be the other reason for the sparse gamblers.

We ate breakfast at the buffet which was NOT GOOD!  After breakfast we headed to the beach.

Before getting to the beach we stopped at the sanctuary to see the nurse sharks, sting rays and sea turtles.  I have NEVER been that close to a shark and it certainly didn't have me grow an affinity for them but it was very cool to see them up close in all their glory.
