Cash chose Art initially even though he didn't really want to do art. Then he changed his mind to Theater. I can see that being a better fit. Band is definitely not his "thing". So theater it is! We went to the elective fair and though I am not sure what Cash expected he liked the school overall. He made the comment several times that he thinks the school is really big. Compared to LSE it is! LSE is a very small elementary school which I like but middle school can be overwhelming when looking at the sheer size difference.
He liked the gym and the fact they have a weight room. We walked down the 6th grade hallway so he got to see the lockers he will use and the classrooms along that hallway. He was shocked to find out that you get to talk to your friends in between classes. He said "you don't have to stand in line anymore in the hallway?". SO CUTE! Along with that though I told him he only has a certain amount of time to get from class to class, make sure he has the books he needs for whatever that next class is and then make it there before the tardy bell. It was the deer in headlights look. He asked how he was going to remember the time for each class. Ugh! Thats when you want to just put them back in the womb! I am sitting there wondering the same thing! How is he going to remember his locker combination? How is he going to remember the time for each class? How is he going to remember where everything is in such a big school? How is he going to remember what he needs for each class before each class? Ok...panic over....for the most part these are all the questions and worries I had when he started kinder. Despite Cash's ADD he has done pretty great navigating elementary and we know he will do great in middle. He had to figure out not just one elementary but 4! He started at Wilderness Oak because Vineyard wasn't ready yet. Then he moved from Vineyard to Hardy Oak as he no longer wanted to be in dual language and then we moved so he had to get used to Leon Springs. I admire his tenacity and confidence.
I am not sure we are ready for middle school (meaning me) but I think middle school will be ready for Cash. He, at the pre-teen age of 11, is so smart, confident, handsome beyond my wildest dreams, tall, outgoing, sweet, well-mannered, and extremely strong minded. I would say the last one we struggle with but there is no doubt where he gets that trait. God speed our sweet boy!
I was very aware when asking him to take this picture that it may not be "cool" to do so. I don't know why that feeling was pretty overwhelming to me but it was. That said as long as he still calls me mommy...and he does on his own accord then its super cool!
